Britain: The Beginning

Ok, first things first. Before humans even came to Britain, before even the time of the ancient civilisations the British isles ( then known as Albion) was ruled over by a race of giants, the earliest inhabitants of ancient Britain. The ruler of these giants was Albion, hence the naming of the island. Albion, in legend was the fourth son of the sea God Poseidon (or Neptune for the Romans). Little is known of Albion, but his end. The tenth of Hercules labours took him to Spain to find and capture a unique herd of cattle, but on his return to Greece he came under attack by Ligurians, near the mouth of the Rhone. they were attenmpting to take the cattle form him, and were led by another two sons of Poseidon. albion recieved news of this and went to aid his brothers. Hercules, with the aid of his men and Zeus killed the Ligurians and the giants. Albion was dead. But the giants continued for roughly 600 years in Britain, untill they emt their end in Cornwall when confronted by the Trojans.

While the last giant Gogmagog was killed by Corineus long after the aftermath of the Trojan war (about which we will go into greater detail later), thrown over a Cornish cliff. However, popular legend tells of Giants surviving a lot longer than this. One of the most popular was the giant Cormoran, the Lord of St. Michael's mount who was Slain be Jack the giant killer. Another being Bolster, outwitted by St. Agnes. However, most surviving stories are of stupid, cornish giants, who are prone to megalithic pissing contests with boulders, usually ending in disaster.

Albion became Britain long after the  Trojan war. When the great city fell to the Greeks, one of it's more potent nobles, Aeneas escaped with a party of companions and made his way to Italy. After many supposed great adventures, the Trojans  stopped and founded a settlement in Italy, and from them, the Romans were descnded. Ascanius, son of Aeneas had another son Silvius, about whom soothsayers predicted that his son would be the death of his parents, but would rise to high honour. The son of silvius, Brutus killed his father with a stray arrow while hunting, and his mother died giving birth to him.

Brutus, now banashed from Italy went to Greece. The current Greek King, Pandrasus had several thousand slaves,. whom were descended from the prisoners of Troy years ago. Brutus, enraged, organised a revolt amognst the slaved and captured Pandrasus,  who buckled easily and allowed Brutus to lead the Troajns whichever way he would. He quickly asembled a fleet and set sail, he found a deserted island, which had only a temple to the Godess Diana. Brutus ritually consulted with her for a long time, and eventually she appeared to him in a dream and told Bnrutus of another virtually deserted island, a far far greater one, out in the Ocean towards the sunset. She told Brutus that it had once been inhabited by a great race of giants, whom had now passed, or nearly so. From this island he could establish a new Troy, and father a dysnasty of Kings who would be the most powerful who walked the Earth.

Brutus, now much encouraged to find this new land of proesperity and power  set sail along the coats of Africa to Gibralter. here they met another party, surprisingly of their own kinsfolk, led by the strong Corineus, who would later Prove vital to founding Britain. After the two joined forces they passed through Gaul, where they founded the city of Tours, but they did not stay in Gaul. After a quick hope over the channel, they arrived at Albion, and disembarked at Totnes, Brutus stepped on a rock and announced:

"Here I am & here I rest
And this town shall be called totnes."

Well, that's what he said in English anyway. The rock on which he stood, the "Brutus Stone", has now been removed to thhe High street, near the East gate.Brutus renamed the Isle of Albion "Britain" after himself, and his followers were Britons. As metioned, the handfull of Giants that remained were located in Cornwall, and as Totnes is in Devon they were close by. the remaining Giants attacked Brutus' camp with greater failure, the last of the surviving giants, Gogmagog was taken alive and wrestled over a cliff by the powerful Corineus.

Unfinished as of yet...
